The library of Gabriel Jeanton, an archeologist, historian and folklore specialist (1881-1943), was acquired at a public auction in Mâcon and installed in the château tower. This private library boasts an outstanding collection of extremely rare books that retrace the history of the region ́.
Born in Lacrost (near Tournus in Saône-et-Loire) on 15 May, 1881, Gabriel Jeanton was the curator of the Greuze Museum in Tournus. He published numerous works throughout his life, which made him deservedly famous, including: Le Mâconnais gallo-romain, Répertoire des découvertes archéologiques faites dans l’arrondissement de Mâcon, 1926-1927; La Chapelle du Poizat, relevant des Ordres du Temple et de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem, seigneuries, chapelles, Commanderies (1918); Les Cheminées sarrasines, Étude d’Ethnographie et d’Archéologie bressane (1924); Un Procès de sorcellerie à Mâcon au XVIIe siècle (1931); Les commanderies du Temple Sainte-Catherine de Montbellet et de Rougepont (1918) and Costumes bressans et mâconnais (1937).
